Normalization of the Matter Power Spectrum via the Ellipticity Function of Giant Galaxy Voids from Sdss Dr5
نویسنده
چکیده
The ellipticity function of cosmic voids exhibits strong dependence on the amplitude of the linear matter power spectrum. Analyzing the most recent void catalogs constructed by Foster and Nelson from the fifth data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, we measure observationally the ellipticity function of giant galaxy voids. Then, we incorporate the redshift distortion and galaxy bias effect into the analytic model of the void ellipticity function and fit it to the observational result by adjusting the value of the power-spectrum normalization with the help of the generalized χ-minimization method. The best-fit normalization of the linear power spectrum is found to be σ8 = 0.90 ± 0.04. Our result is higher than the WMAP σ8-value but consistent with that from the recent work of Liu and Li who have constructed a new improved CMB map independently. The Galaxy Power Spectrum: Precision Cosmology from Large Scale Structure?
Published galaxy power spectra from the 2dFGRS and SDSS are not in good agreement. We revisit this issue by analyzing both the 2dFGRS and SDSS DR5 catalogues using essentially identical techniques. We confirm that the 2dFGRS exhibits relatively more large scale power than the SDSS, or, equivalently, SDSS has more small scale power. We demonstrate that this difference is due to the r-band select...
متن کاملConstraining the Matter Power Spectrum Normalization Using the Sdss/rass and Reflex Cluster Surveys
We describe a new approach to constrain the amplitude of matter perturbations in the Universe using galaxy clusters. We combine the galaxy cluster X-ray luminosity function of the REFLEX survey with the mass– luminosity relationship obtained via gravitational lensing from a sample of galaxy clusters identified in Sloan Digital Sky Survey commissioning data and confirmed through cross-correlatio...
متن کاملIntrinsic Ellipticity Correlation of Sdss Luminous Red Galaxies and Misalignment with Their Host Dark Matter Halos
We investigate the orientation correlation of giant elliptical galaxies by measuring the intrinsic ellipticity correlation function of 83,773 luminous red galaxies (LRGs) at redshifts 0.16 – 0.47 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We have accurately determined the correlation up to 30 h Mpc. Luminosity dependence of the ellipticity correlation is also detected although the error bars are large,...
متن کاملA Detection of Dark Matter Halo Ellipticity Using Galaxy Cluster Lensing in Sdss
We measure the ellipticity of isolated clusters of galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) using gravitational lensing. We stack the clusters, rotating so that the major axes of the ellipses determined by the positions of cluster member galaxies are aligned. We exclude the signal from the central 0.5 h Mpc to avoid problems with stacking alignment and cluster member contamination. We fi...
متن کاملCosmological constraints from the masses and abundances of L∗ galaxies
We place limits on the mean density of the universe Ωm and the effective slope of the linear power spectrum around a megaparsec scale neff by comparing the universal mass function to the observed luminosity function. Numerical simulations suggest that the dark matter halo mass function at small scales depends only on Ωm(neff +3) independent of the overall power spectrum normalization. Matching ...
